Questions and objections about getting chiropractic care

After years of treating patients and seeing results, some people are still hesitant to get chiropractic care. The biggest objections are cost and time. For people who would like to know what to expect regarding time, cost, and how becoming a patient works, the following information is provided.

Cost

How much does it cost to see a chiropractor? Can I afford care? Costs and insurance benefits vary. Here is what to expect:

No insurance or insurance with no coverage

About 50–60% of our patients do not have insurance coverage for chiropractic care. The first visit is $47 for the exam and X-rays using the new-patient coupon; the fee includes reviewing your findings at the next visit. Adjustments are $46 per visit, and family discounts are available.

Insurance

We accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Medical Mutual, Frontpath, Paramount, Buckeye, Humana, United Healthcare, Workers' Compensation, auto injury insurance, Medicare, and others. Paramount Advantage is not accepted; other Paramount insurance is accepted.

Insurance plans vary. We are in-network with many insurers and out-of-network with some plans, depending on your benefits and treatment options. Co-pays may range from $5 to $50. The published example estimates $10–$30 for 12–36 visits.

Medicare patients

Medicare includes chiropractic coverage and may have an estimated $6–$7 co-pay. Secondary or supplemental plans may cover the co-pay.

Time

Do I have to go forever?

No. There are no contracts, and you can stop care at any time. Some patients who get good results choose periodic visits to maintain them and help keep the initial issue from returning.

How long do I have to sign up for?

We offer care packages to help keep care affordable for more complex cases. There are no contracts.

How long do you recommend I come?

The recommended length of care varies by individual and is typically four to sixteen weeks before moving to a maintenance schedule, if desired.

Can I come in for just a couple of treatments?

You can come in for only a couple of treatments, but we do not recommend this for most conditions because a small number of treatments may not create structural change. This is like exercising for two days and stopping: your body may feel much the same and could be sore. Lasting change takes work and time.

Starting care steps

First visit

  1. Complete the usual paperwork and read information about what to expect.
  2. Meet with Dr. Rahman or Dr. Peisley for an exam and consultation, which we estimate takes about 10–15 minutes in most cases.
  3. If needed, the clinic uses an in-office digital X-ray system. Treatment is not typically provided on the first visit because digital measurements of the spine are taken before the first treatment.

Schedule another appointment to review the findings and receive an initial treatment if you choose.

Second visit

  1. We discuss the X-rays and care plan, explains what was found, and how it may be addressed.
  2. Care plan options, including visit frequency and cost, are reviewed in writing. The patient decides which option to choose or whether to proceed.

You are either receiving chiropractic care or you are not.
